Patchwork Kiim Rugs are flat-weave rugs which are constructed from smaller pieces cut from different kilims and sewn together to create a larger piece. They very much sought after due to their unique visual appeal and contemporary colour palette.
Each patchwork rug in our range is one-of-a-kind, being constructed from genuine Aged and Vintage Turkish Kilims.
We personally travel to all regions of Turkey to select older, sometimes partially worn or damaged kilims which are suitable for repurposing as Patchwork Kilim Rugs, paying careful attention to the quality of original kilim, the materials and workmanship, the visual appeal of the designs and motifs and the colours most suitable for combining into an up-cycled rug.
In our workplace, the old, individual kilims are firstly carefully hand--washed to remove any residual soiling or staining before being cut into smaller, rectangular pieces. A lining is then sewn onto the back of each individual kilim piece to ensure stability and the individual pieces are then joined. Finally, a strong backing fabric is sewn to the finished piece.
As several different Kilims have been used to create each rug / runner, the overall effect is one of visually pleasing shade and pattern variations.
Our workplace artisans are extremely skilled as well as having a great eye for colour and design, so each Patchwork Kilim Rug they produce for us is a “work of art”. We are proud to display some of their fine work in this section of our Website.
Optional – but this might attract designers
A special feature of Patchwork Kilim Rugs is that they can be “made to order”, which is very useful if you have a particular space to fill and which conventional sized rugs do not suit. As we select and collect our own kilims for remanufacture into Patchwork Kilim Rugs, we can show you the patterns and colours of the Kilims we suggest you use / which we believe will work well together and then we can cut and sew a rug to suit your space.
